Zakah on the wealth of a person who is not of sound mind

ZAKAH ON THE WEALTH OF A PERSON WHO IS NOT OF SOUND MIND

Q: What if someone is mentally incapacitated but owns wealth—does zakah apply?
A: Yes, zakah still applies to his wealth.

  • The guardian managing the wealth is responsible for paying zakah on his behalf.
  • The Prophet ﷺ emphasized that money belonging to such individuals should be invested so that zakah doesn’t deplete it year by year.
