Justice Among Children

Q: If a father favors one child over the others by giving him special gifts and not the others, is this permissible?

A:
No, it is not permissible.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ refused to witness a gift given to only one child without equal treatment to the others, saying, “I do not witness injustice.

Favoritism among children by giving one more than others without a valid reason creates:

  • Injustice,
  • Envy,
  • Hatred among siblings.

Parents must be just and fair with all their children in gifts and treatment, as fairness is a command from Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
