Dr. Mahmoud A. Omar is a respected contemporary Muslim scholar whose life has been devoted to the pursuit, preservation, and transmission of sacred knowledge. Formed within the classical Sunni scholarly tradition and grounded in recognized chains of learning (isnad), his teaching reflects clarity, precision, and deep reverence for the inherited sciences of Islam. At the same time, his warm demeanor and gentle humor create learning spaces that are welcoming, dignified, and rooted in care.

A graduate of the venerable Al-Azhar University, Dr. Omar specialized in Usul al-Din (Islamic Theology) and was appointed a Fatwa Board Member by the Al-Azhar Council in Al-Monofiya Province, Egypt. His scholarship encompasses Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Qawaʿid Fiqhiyyah, Qur’anic sciences, Hadith, and Islamic finance, disciplines he studied through sustained engagement with teachers, texts, and authorized transmission.

President of the Edmonton Council of Imams (ECI).

Head of Audit and training committee & Shariah advisor for (CIFB) Canadian islamic finance board.

Associate Professor at the Islamic University of Minnesota (USA).

Dr. Omar’s work on the Fatwa Board is instrumental in providing Shariah-compliant solutions to the challenges faced by Muslims in the West, ensuring that all legal, financial, and personal matters are resolved in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Mastery of Quranic Sciences

Dr. Omar possesses Ijazat (authorizations) in the Qira’at (recitations) of the Holy Qur’an, encompassing all ten canonical modes of recitation. القراءات العشر الصغرى والكبرى والاربعة الزائدة عليها

He is also highly versed in the Hadith Sciences, with Ijazat in the major collections of Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and al-Muwatta, he has published his book in Hadith “حصاد الدرر في الحديث والأثر “

His extensive training in Usool (Fiqh & Hadith) (Islamic law Principles) has further cemented his place as a trusted authority in Islamic theology and jurisprudence.

Service to the Ummah

Dr. Omar’s dedication to the Ummah extends beyond academia. He is a regular contributor to Islamic jurisprudence, offering guidance on topics such as:

He teaches with humility, patience, and warmth, transmitting not only rulings and texts, but adab, clarity of thought, and respect for scholarly difference. Over decades of teaching, he has graduated more than 36 Huffaz in multiple Qiraʾat, alongside students of Fiqh and Hadith, nurturing a new generation connected to the tradition through both learning and character.
