Question:
Salam,
If I were to take CBD gummies to help with sleeping but they have 0.0001% THC is it permissible?
Answer:
Salām ʿAlaykum wa Raḥmatullāhi wa Barakātuh,
Jazākum Allāhu khayran for your question.
With regard to taking CBD oil or gummies that contain a very small amount of THC (0.0001%), the general principle in Islamic law is that any substance that intoxicates in large amounts is prohibited, even in small amounts. However, if the amount of THC is so minuscule that it has no psychoactive effect, then its presence does not render the product ḥarām.
Therefore, if it is confirmed that the THC level in your CBD product is negligible and has no active intoxicating effect, and the CBD is being used for legitimate medical reasons such as aiding sleep, anxiety, arthritis etc, then its use would be permissible, in shā’ Allāh.
Wa-Allāhu Aʿlam.
